Bilaspur Chhattisgarh

Bilaspur city is about 400 years old and the name of “Bilaspur” is named after the Fisher-woman named “Bilasa”. Despite many natural calamities, Bilaspur has developed a lot. Bilaspur district is situated between 21.47° to 23.8° north latitudes and 81.14° to 83.15° east longitude.

Bilaspur district is surrounded by Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district of Chhattisgarh state in the north,  Mungeli, and Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh in the west, Balauda Bazar-Bhatapara district of Chhattisgarh in the south and Korba and Janjgir-Champa districts of Chhattisgarh in the east.

The area of ​​the district is 3508.48 square kilometers. The total population of the district is approximately 1625502.

Presently 5 tehsils, 4 blocks, and 708 villages are included in Bilaspur district. It is the second-largest city after the Raipur-Bhilai-Durg Tri-City Metro area.

The High Court of Chhattisgarh is located at village Bodri in district Bilaspur has privileged it with the title ‘Nyayadhani'(Law Capital) of the state. The High Court of Chhattisgarh is the largest High Court of Asia. Bilaspur is the administrative headquarter of Bilaspur district.

Historically, Bilaspur was controlled by the Kalachuri dynasty of Ratanpur. The city, however, came into prominence around 1741, the year of the Maratha Empire rule. The Bilaspur city is approximately 400 years old and the name “Bilaspur” has been originated from the Fisher-woman named “Bilasa”.

Bilaspur district was constituted in year 1861 and followed by Bilaspur municipality in year 1867. Bilaspur district is not only famous in Chhattisgarh state but also in India due to its unique characteristics like rice quality, Kosa industry and its cultural background. Bilaspur district has a major contribution in the naming “Dhan Ka Katora” for the entire Chhattisgarh region. Bilaspur is a city located in Bilaspur District in the Indian state of chhattisgarh . Bilaspur is the administrative headquarters of Bilaspur District and Bilaspur Division. The chhattisgarh high court  located at Bodri, District Bilaspur has privileged it with the title 'Nyayadhani' (Law Capital) of the state. This city is the commercial center and business hub of North East Chhattisgarh region. It is also an important city for the Indian Railway, as it is the headquarters for South eastern central railway  and the Bilaspur Railway Division. Bilaspur is 3rd cleanest and 4th longest railway station in India. Bilaspur is also the headquarters of SECL .NTPC, Sipat is near Bilaspur too.

Bilaspur is one of the 100 Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under the smart cities mission.

The headquarters of the district is Bilaspur. It is the second largest city in the state and the seat of the High Court of Chhattisgarh. It is called the Nyaydhani (judicial capital) of Chhattisgarh.

Bilaspur city runs under the administration of the Bilaspur municipal corporation   (BMC). Ram sharan yadav is mayor of Bilaspur. He is from the Congress Party(INC)
